What is child and teen psychology?
Child and teenage psychology is the scientific study of the mental, social and emotional development of children. This includes biological and environmental factors influencing behaviour. Usually, it's recommended that practitioners employ psychological therapies that are evidence-based. However, a competent scientist-practitioner will individualise treatments, based on their knowledge of evidence based practice, to the child's needs as much as possible, rather than take a one-size fits all approach. Evidenced based practice means the therapies used are supported by scientific and clinical research which have provided evidence of effectiveness within a certain limited clinical population.
An experienced child psychologist has expertise in working with a broad range of mental health problems presented by children and teenagers.
